Bria Tyler
Get inspired by the art on view in our galleries, and work with artist Bria Tyler to create your own glowing, stackable clay sculpture.
In this class, we’ll take a look at Cosmic Tomatoes by artist Rick Nickel and talk about the creative choices artists make to express different emotions. Then, we’ll head into the studio to create our own expressive clay pieces.
Together, we’ll carve into clay forms using simple tools to create faces that show a range of feelings. We’ll also learn how to cut out features like eyes or mouths to let light shine through. Once complete, we’ll add color with ceramic underglaze before sending our artwork to the kiln for firing. Each child’s sculptures are designed to stack and can be lit from within using an LED tea light.
This program encourages emotional expression and supports fine motor skill development through carving, glazing, stacking, and creative decision-making.
All finished artworks will be kiln- and glaze-fired. Museum staff will contact you when your piece is ready for pickup. A complimentary LED tea light will be provided at that time.
A caregiver, parent, or guardian must be present for the duration of this class.
