Vernissage Marit Wolters: sits and spits
In Sits and Spits gibt Marit Wolters Einblick in ihre künstlerische Arbeit mit dem Baustoff Porenbeton. Sie untersucht dessen vielfältige ästhetische Potenziale unter Verwendung verschiedenster Medien. Dabei nutzt sie Skulptur, Klang, Fotografie und ortsspezifische Installationen. Gerade die klanglichen Eigenschaften des Materials beim Gießen von Skulpturen machen einen großen Teil von Wolters’ Faszination aus. Einmal angerührt, beginnt die Betonmasse chemisch zu reagieren. In diesem Prozess entstehen Luftbläschen, die das Material langsam aufgehen lassen, analog einem Hefeteig vor dem Backen. Dabei blubbert, zischt und röchelt es. Der Klang wird maßgeblich von unterschiedlichen Mischverhältnissen der Zuschlagstoffe des Porenbetons bestimmt, kann nur bedingt von der Künstlerin dirigiert werden. So werden essenzielle Entscheidungen im Formfindungs- und Kompositionsprozess an die stofflichen Eigenschaften des Materials ausgelagert. Wolters entwickelte zunächst 2021 in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Detroiter Musiker Deep Chord eine sphärische Soundarbeit, die die haptischen Werke akustisch ergänzt. Für den Echoraum entstand nun eine Videoarbeit, die das direkte klangliche Agieren des Materials in Bild und Ton fasst. Wolters beschreibt die aufgenommenen Skulpturen dabei als „Chor“, welcher ein improvisiertes Stück aufführt, auf dessen Verlauf die Künstlerin nur durch das Bestimmen der Mischverhältnisse des Materials Einfluss hat.
Marit Wolters ist eine deutsche bildende Künstlerin, die in Wien lebt. Ihre Arbeiten untersuchen das ästhetische Potenzial von architektonischen Materialien, Prozessen und Strukturen und deren Interaktion mit sozialen und ökologischen Systemen. Die Werkzyklen speisen sich thematisch aus Wolters‘ unmittelbarer Umgebung. Sie greift Strukturen und Materialien der architektonischen oder landschaftlichen Umgebung auf, um deren Eigenschaften in ihre eigene Bildsprache zu übersetzen. Sie wurde mit einer Vielzahl Preisen ausgezeichnet, ihre Werke werden international ausgestellt.

Barbora Tomášková (Cello, Elektronik) & Emilio Gordoa (Snare Drum & Elektronik)
Barbora Tomášková is an innovative Slovak composer and experimental musician whose work bridges the gap between traditional acoustic instruments and modern live electronics. Her music is characterized by a deeply intuitive and ritualistic flow, in which soundscapes unfold in abstract yet accessible ways, rooted in familiar sounds and textures. Through the fusion of conventional instruments, self-made sound objects and electronic elements, Tomášková creates hybrid sound forms that challenge the boundaries between the organic and the synthetic. In addition to her captivating solo performances, Tomášková is also a versatile composer who has written numerous works for classical ensembles. Her compositions have been performed at prestigious festivals in countries such as Germany, Portugal, Spain, Georgia, Austria and the Czech Republic, demonstrating her ability to appeal to a wide audience. Her creative approach is characterized by an experimental spirit and transforms ordinary sounds into immersive listening experiences. Tomášková graduated in composition from the Academy of Performing Arts (VŠMU) in Bratislava, where she honed her craft, and furthered her knowledge with a master’s degree in composition in Portugal. This blend of academic training and practical experimentation is the basis of her unique sound and makes her a leading voice on the contemporary music scene.

Emilio Gordoa Rodríguez (b. 1987, Mexico City) is a Mexican sound artist, percussionist, and composer whose work focuses on sound and performance as primary means of expresion. Based in Berlin since 2012, he has been an active contributor to the city’s “Echtzeitmusik” (real-time music) scene and is involved in the international avant-garde music community. His projects include solo and ensemble performances, sound installations, and compositions for film, theater and dance. He has collaborated with a wide range of artists, including Jérôme Noetinger, Ingrid Schomliner, Yuko Kaseki, Burkhard Beins, Don Malfon, John Butcher and Sabiene Vogel. Gordoa’s approach combines experimental percussive techniques with electronic elements, leading to invitations to perform at events such as the Moers Festival, Meakusma Festival in Belgium, A’larme!, and Maerzmusik in Berlin. He founded WildSonico, a platform for experimental music, and has been part of artist residencies at institutions like the Akademie der Künste and Kunststiftung NRW. He also worked as the Improviser in Residence for the Moers Festival. His discography includes albums such as Substantial Myths (2022), Balderi Variations (2019), and GRIFF (2021), which reflect his ongoing engagement with music. His work has been supported by organizations such as the Goethe-Institut, Musikfonds e.V., and INM – initiative neue musik berlin, and he has received recognition, including an Honorary Mention at the Prix Ars Electronica.
