About the event

Wool Works: A Life in West Coast Fibre Farming
Join us on Friday, June 13th to welcome Emily McIvor of New Wave Fibre as she presents her story of starting a regenerative sheep farm and learning to design and sell yarn.
It is part personal narrative, part 'how to' guide, and part call to action on sustainable textiles, supply chain development, and right livelihood.
Complete with a multi-media presentation, stories from the farm, and samples of her fleece and fibre, this is a rare chance to speak directly with an experienced Canadian fleece farmer, and gain new understanding of this nuanced Canadian industry.

About Emily McIvor and New Wave Fibre
New Wave Fibre began as a joint venture between Emily McIvor and Jodi Schamburger as a way to use the amazing wool from their fibre primary flocks of sheep. They shared a vision of ecologically sustainable textiles and a sense of DIY fashion, empowering themselves to grow fibre, make clothes and wear (and do) what they want.
The ensuing five years has provided experience in shepherding as well as working with a range of Canadian mills and other manufacturers. Now under the creative leadership of Emily (but still very much in partnership with Jodi), New Wave Fibre pools and processes wool from several farms on the Gulf Islands and Vancouver Island. They provide a wide range of breed specific yarn, roving, and raw and washed fleece to makers across the Pacific Northwest.
Emily is a founding and currently serving board member of the Canadian Wool Collective, a grassroots, women-led not-for-profit organization that advocates for wool producers across the country. In the past year, they have launched Canada’s first wool certification program, which traces and promotes products made from Canadian wool.
