St. Lucia Celebration

Celebrated on December 13th, St. Lucia's Day is a beautiful Swedish tradition that symbolizes light during the darkest period of the year. The festivities are highlighted by processions of figures dressed in white, led by a girl wearing a candle crown. Participants sing joyful songs and carry candles, while the procession also includes charming characters like star boys and gingerbread men. The celebration is further enriched by traditional foods and beverages, including saffron buns (lussekatter) and mulled wine (glögg).

The Historical Society remains dedicated to preserving traditional Swedish Christmas customs, just as the Hallstrom Family would have.
In place of an admission fee and in the spirit of giving, we will be collecting non-perishable food items at the entrance.
