Since Venice is known as “The Shark Tooth Capital of the World” and H2O Adventures & More likes to have fun hunting for shark teeth we created “The Shark Tooth Derby”.
Join us on Sunday, July 27, 2025 from 8AM until 11am for this annual event. Do you shark tooth hunt with your kids, Friends and/or family and like a little friendly competition to see who can collect the most, the biggest, the smallest or most unique shark teeth? If so, this is something you will enjoy. If not, this may be a new thing for you, your friends and/or family to try.
We’ve had people from all walks of life and all over the world come to hunt for fossils and shark teeth with us in the Peace River and down in Venice. If you’ve never been out looking for fossils, including shark teeth, you don’t know what your missing. Once you find your first, you won’t want to stop looking for more.
We will have individual adult and individual kiddo competitions, as well as, a team competition (mixed adult/child is acceptable). Each competition will be timed for one (1) hour and sanitized scoops and sifters will be provided.
The team competition will begin at 8:15 am and there will be a max of 10 teams of two (2).
All individual competitions will begin at 9:30am and there will be 10 spots for adults and 10 spots for kiddos.
The goal is for each team and/ or individual to hunt for one (1) hour and find as many whole shark teeth as they can. The best part, everyone is a winner and you get to keep all the teeth you find. It wouldn’t be a competition without prizes, so we have those too. The winning team will receive Paddle Bucks (our form of a gift certificate) and the top individual winners win a megalodon tooth replica trophy provided by North Florida Fossils and Crystals. Of course we will have H2O Adventures & More swag for all participants.
Now for the fine print and rules
• Each team must have two people and a team name.
• Team must hunt utilizing one scoop and one sifter.
• Total greatest number of whole shark teeth wins.
• In the event of a tie there will be an additional 15 minute search.

In order to participate in this event you must register by completing a waiver and payment. Registration fees are $30 per adult and $15 per kiddo <12. If you competed in the derby last year take $5 off each person’s fees for this year’s registration. Registration deadline 7/25/2025
