In this workshop, we will dive into the practical foundations of creating compelling characters for improv theater and beyond, including film, stage, and writing.
Drawing on the teachings of David Razowsky and Mike Myers, both longtime performers and teachers at The Second City (the legendary Chicago-based improv and comedy theater), we will explore what makes characters engaging, playable, and alive in a scene.
Together, we will focus on three core questions:
- What makes a character interesting to watch?
- What makes a character easy and fun to play?
- What creates a strong and believable dynamic between two characters?
Before jumping into full scenes, we will slow things down and work with short, focused exercises. These are designed to build clarity, creativity, and empathy, so playing becomes lighter, more joyful, and more connected.
This workshop is about basics done well. Simple choices, clear points of view, and characters you can return to again and again.
