About the event

Love, Resistance & Identity: Women’s Open Mic for Sudan
Celebrate love, resistance & identity at a women’s open mic for Sudan. Dec 14, 4–7 PM. All proceeds support Doctors Without Borders

About this Event

As the holiday season begins, many of us celebrate with gifts and family gatherings — but not everyone in the world is as fortunate. Sudan is currently experiencing a widespread conflict, triggered on April 15, 2023, when intense fighting broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Khartoum. The violence has spread across the country, killing thousands and forcing millions from their homes, leaving nearly 25 million people in humanitarian need.

Let’s Talk Women of Color invites you to an open mic and music event to bring our community together to reflect on love, resistance, and identity, while raising awareness about the Sudan crisis. Preformers can present poetry, play music (a piano is available in the space) sing, deliver a speech etc. This is a safe space to use your creativity to support an important cause. We are using St. Helen's Anglican Church space for this event, however, the event itself is non-religious. All ticket proceeds will be donated to Doctors Without Borders (MSF) to support their life-saving work on the ground. Tickets can be bought by donation, however, we recommend attendees pay minimum 5$.

If you would like to sign up as a preformer, please sign up using the following form. Sign up by Dec 12 at 6PM PST: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeyRKeHGRge9-CNBDOq03UqaKJmNhLgtDBeQovUvR8RInQBfQ/viewform

Our event will end with a book-exchange, so we encourage attendees to bring in a book to swap with another person at the event to strengthen our community!

This is a women-only space for creative expression, solidarity, and community.

About Let’s Talk Women of Colour

Let’s Talk WOC is a youth-led, grassroots platform in Vancouver where teen girls of colour and allies connect, collaborate, and lead. We create spaces for conversations often overlooked, emphasizing intersectionality in social justice. Through storytelling, intergenerational learning, education, monthly community chats, and creative expression, we empower young women to find their voice, embrace self-love, and grow as advocates through local and global civic engagement.
