Take flight on paper wings at Folding Flights of Fancy as world-renowned origami artist Joseph Wu reveals how a humble square of paper can be transformed into a tiny miracle of imagination!
Joseph will bring a collection of his remarkable creations to inspire you, and will guide you through the process of making your own bats, jack-o-lanterns and dragons. Whether you’ve never folded more than a grocery list or you’re already a seasoned paper alchemist, you’ll leave inspired, entertained, and possibly surrounded by a small flock of your own handmade companions.

Vancouver-based artist Joseph Wu encountered origami at the age of three. He started early as he began creating original designs at the age of eleven. Active in the international origami community, he has attended conferences, taught classes, given lectures, and exhibited works in many parts of the world. He also co-administers the email discussion group on origami, facilitating communication between enthusiasts from over 35 countries.
Joseph’s work has been shown internationally, including a recent exhibit at the Chi Mei Museum in Taiwan. His work has appeared in many publications, including Rolling Stone, O Magazine, and the New York Times. His clients have included Stolichnaya Vodka, Intel and Air Canada, and he has produced on-set art for such TV shows and movies as Fringe and Underworld 4.
Joseph designed, built and installed a 180-foot long origami light sculpture that is the centrepiece of Botanist restaurant at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel. His collaboration with Tangible Interaction, “Jelly Swarm” appears each winter at the Vancouver Aquarium.
