AUDITIONS: "I AM FRANKENSTEIN" BY JOHN HAMON AT MAGENTA THEATER

Auditioners will be part of a group of actors to read select sides from the script during one of the following time slots:
12pm-1pm
1pm-2pm
2pm-3pm
3pm-4pm

Walk-ups will be accepted as schedule allows.

ROLES:
THE CREATURE: Male, powerfully build. Strong enough to carry the actor playing Victor. Emotionally raw and underdeveloped, highly intelligent, with a supernatural gift for imitation and language acquisition., The “man in storm” in the first scene is played by the same actor.

VICTOR: Male, early to mid-20s, student of alchemy, chemistry. A young man in a hurry, willing to break rules to achieve greatness.

ELIZABETH: Female, early 20s. Victor’s cousin, raised as his sister within the same household. Kind and loving, discerning, and moral.

MARY/MOTHER: Female, 18-early 20s, she also “plays” MOTHER, a female, 40s-50s. She is Mary Goodwin and the eventual Mary Shelley, author of the novel Frankenstein. She is an empath who is dark-natured, deeply affected by her mother’s death, and eager to prove her greatness as a writer and exorcise her own demons in the process.

HENRY: Male, early 20s, best friend of Victor, admirer of ELIZABETH. Noble, conscientious, good-natured and funny.

BLACKBIRDS: Chorus: Females predominantly any age 3-9 actors/dancers/movers/vocalists. 6 is perhaps the perfect number.

WALTON: Either, 35. English sea explorer in the arctic. Admires Victor’s adventurousness and desires fame and fortune.

PROF. KREMPE: Either, 40, french chemistry professor. Eccentric, acerbic, judgemental, intellectually superior, witty.

BYRON: Male, 30, writer Lord Byron. Egotistical, confident genius who is something of a misogynist and an antagonist of Mary.

FATHER: Male, 40-50. Victor’s father and Elizabeth’s adoptive father.

PERCY: Male, early 20s, the writer Percy Shelley. In a relationship with with Mary, though he is married to another woman. A weak defender of his lover, and a man who takes a back seat to Byron.

LUCIA: Female, Corsican maid, 30-55. Nurturing earth mother. Could also be member of the Blackbirds but should not be doubled with Mary.

SAILOR 1: Either, British, any age.

SAILOR 2: Either, British, any age.

Some roles are expected to be “doubled”, with multiple roles played by the same actor.

Participants of all races, ethnicities, national origins, sexual orientations, gender expressions, and abilities are encouraged to submit.
