The family of Jonathan Hoose has requested the Patriot Guard to stand in his honor.
SFC Jonathan Hoose dedicated his life to the service of others. At just 19 years old, he joined the Army National Guard in 2008 after receiving his EMT-B training through Indian Hills Community College, beginning a career defined by courage, sacrifice, and compassion. As a combat medic, he served two tours in Afghanistan (2010–2011 and 2012–2013), earning numerous honors including the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, the NATO Afghanistan Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Combat Medic Badge, the Mountain Warfare Badge, and many others that reflected his selfless commitment and excellence.
After his military service, Jonathan returned to Indian Hills Community College, where he earned two associate degrees before continuing his lifelong mission of care as an Advanced EMT at Monroe County Hospital and Clinics. For more than a decade, he served patients and worked alongside colleagues who became like family to him.
Jonathan’s final act was true to the way he lived his life—he gave it in the service of another.
He tragically passed away in an inner tubing accident, choosing to save another person’s life instead of his own. His legacy is one of bravery, dedication, and unwavering devotion to others. He will be remembered not only for his service to country and community, but for the extraordinary kindness and sacrifice that defined his life.
