On Saturday, May 17 Sandi Squirrel, from The Camp Rainbow will guide us as we walk and forage at Vallejo People's Garden and surrounding area. Together we will create a flavorful beverage with an infusion of herbs. This is an ancient practice with a rich history and a growing modern appreciation, offering a connection to nature.

After the Join us for our first potluck of the year at the Vallejo People’s Garden from 12 to 2 PM, right after our exciting foraging class with Sandi Squirrel! This is a fantastic opportunity to meet new friends, exchange gardening tips, bask in the beautiful warm weather, and share a delicious meal together. Bring your favorite dish to share and let’s celebrate the season in good company.

Sandi Squirrel bio:

As a dedicated Naturalist, Herbalist, Forager, and Gardener, I am devoting my life to encouraging communities to connect to the natural world. Over the past 20 years, I have written environmentally friendly songs for children and conducted interactive, educational shows in schools, libraries, theme parks, and private events, as seen on www.insectsongs.com.

My journey has also led me to conduct herbal preparation classes and workshops for both youth and adults. Recently, I found myself gathering groups of children from areas lacking access to my programs. This inspired me to create a Day Camp—a unique environment and nature habitat designed for learning, exploration, and participation in nature-related projects tailored to their needs.

What began as a small initiative quickly grew into a significant movement, with increasing participation and mounting expenses. Convinced that this endeavor is my calling, I established a nonprofit organization to support my mission through grants and donations. There is a pressing need to educate children about their natural surroundings, fostering a deep connection and mindfulness that is becoming increasingly rare. I am committed to reigniting this awareness and helping the next generation develop a lifelong respect and love for nature.
