About the event

USHS Speaker Series
As a young man in the 1970s, Walter began travelling around Canada and the USA in search of Victorian architecture to use as subjects for his intricately detailed drybrush watercolour paintings. His early works were grand houses in silhouette. By the 1980s, his artistic style evolved into full paintings, featuring century buildings against a backdrop of seasonal foliage, plus horse drawn carriages or vintage vehicles. Walter’s limited edition and signature series prints captured heartwarming family scenes and special occasions including Christmas, Halloween, weddings, Valentine’s Day, golf and cottage life. His art galleries in Richmond Hill and Niagara-on-the-Lake, and sales to other galleries, were very successful. Over the years, Walter has done many beautiful commissioned paintings for fine art collectors and corporations such as the TTC. Generations of people have graced their homes with his nostalgic images. Some local subjects include the red Uxbridge coach house, the railway station and the home at the corner of Third Avenue and Brock St. East. All subjects preserve our architectural history and are aesthetically pleasing.

Semi-retired now, Walter continues to sell his artwork, and he teaches art lessons to pass along his skills. Over the past few years, he has had more time for his music and you can find him hosting the open mic at the Uxbridge Legion on Sunday afternoons, or entertaining at Uxbridge Lions Art in the Park. Walter is well regarded for doing amazing covers of Gordon Lightfoot’s Canadian ballads based on historic events, such as The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, with his 12-string guitar and his melodic voice.
