The MoonDogs play our interpretation of rustic, roots rock; Americana, blues, rock and reggae!
Supplying their blend of styles to the Central Illinois scene since 2010. The MoonDogs have developed an extensive repertoire as well as musical sensibilities normally found in classic recording studio bands (ala “The Wrecking Crew” & “the Funk Brothers”) with a typical show taking you from The Band to Bonnie Raitt to Bob Marley with plenty more mixed in to keep the dance floor moving. The focus is on great songwriters who walked the earth in the days of vinyl.
The key to such a diverse repertoire are vocalists who can share lead-singing duties. The MoonDogs secret weapons are 3 lovely and talented female vocalists: Karen Hart, Abby Haughee (mandolin), and Wendy Meyer (acoustic guitar) covering anything from Mick Jagger to Joni Mitchell. Throw Joe McLean into the mix when things need to get bluesy or add 4-part harmony, and you’ve got the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s covered!
Danny Haughee recently added his soulful harmonica to the band, taking the groups sound even further into the roots and blues genre. Take all that musical goodness, put it on top of a rhythm section composed of 2 long-time veterans of the scene, Jay Ferguson (drummer, musical director, and driving force) and Aaron Walk (former bass player from national touring act, The Boat Drunks), and you’ve got yourself one heck of a band!
All of that sound and talent is entrusted to our man behind the soundboard. Local musician and sound technician, William Michael Brown has been making the band sound great for years, at least when he’s not backstage changing mandolin and guitar strings on the fly… Thank you, WMB!
