Join us for an illuminating screening of the documentary "Bound: Africans Vs. African Americans" followed by a special educational session on the Illinois Family Roots Pilot Program and the TAKiR (The African Kinship Reunion) Project.
Dr. LaKisha David will present her groundbreaking research in genetic genealogy that reconnects African Americans with living relatives in Ghana, bridging gaps in science, culture, and identity. Learn how Illinois residents can participate in this historic initiative through the Illinois Family Roots Pilot Program, established by House Resolution 453 (HR0453) and championed by State Representative Carol Ammons.
Discover how this landmark program provides free DNA testing and genealogical analysis to help Illinois residents uncover their African ancestral histories. Representative Ammons has developed this initiative as part of a broader movement for historical justice, genealogical reconstruction, and community healing, with additional support from Senate Resolution 590 (SR0590) sponsored by State Senator Napoleon Harris III.
Food will be provided, and on-site DNA testing will be available. Attendees can also join our waiting list to participate in future events of the TAKiR Project, which creates avenues for cultural healing through genealogical discovery and historical restoration.
