In celebration of the "Making Place for the Arts at Home" exhibition, Krannert Art Museum and Urbana Arts and Culture present Erlanger After Dark!—a free, all-ages evening honoring the legacy of dance and midcentury modern architecture at the historic Erlanger House in Urbana.

Activities start at 7 pm in Carle Park with artmaking, music, and local food trucks, followed by an outdoor video projection of dance works onto the home’s exterior at sundown (around 9 pm). Food will be available for purchase from Champaign County History Museum’s Historic Popcorn Truck, The Main Scoop!, and more.

The evening’s video production and installation are by Matt Harsh and Jake Metz. The film features archival footage and documentation by Dr. Laura Chiaramonte of choreographer Anna Sapozhnikov’s “Good House Keep”—a dance created for midcentury modern spaces and presented in conjunction with the exhibition. Collaborators include U of I Department of Dance faculty Roxane D’Orléans Juste, Nicole Marini, Alexandra Barbier, and Jan Erkert, with an original sound score by Elliot Reza Emadian. Lighting design in Carle Park by Crash Events.

Commissioned in 1964 by Margaret Erlanger—founding professor of the U of I Department of Dance—the Erlanger House was designed by U of I School of Architecture faculty member Jack Baker. Its bold modernist style reflected Erlanger’s forward-thinking vision and dedication to the arts.

ERLANGER AFTER DARK is presented in partnership with Urbana Arts and Culture Program, with support from the Urbana Park District.

The "Making Place for the Arts at Home: Performance and Midcentury Modern Architecture" exhibition is supported in part by the Sandra L. Batzli Memorial Fund and the Kim and Peter Fox Exhibition Support Endowment. Cosponsored by Champaign County History Museum and the School of Architecture. Additional support from James and Ruth Anderson; James A. and Lorene M. Bier; Terry and Sharon Harkness; Michael Hogue, The Michael Hogue Team, RE/MAX Realty Associates; Lisa and Abraham Kocheril; Alan T. Mette; Jeffery Poss Architect, PLLC; Jane and John Santogrossi; and William T. Tucker, BArch ’78, MArch ’81.
