About the show:
Based on true events, PREDICTOR is the real-life story of Margaret Crane who, in 1967, defied all odds and shattered expectations to become the inventor of the first home pregnancy test. Moving fluidly through past, present and future in an "absurdist comic romp," the play takes us into the whirling complexities of Meg's mind as she contemplates a simple patent application: will Meg’s world-changing invention fall into the wrong hands and disappear, or will she make a huge personal sacrifice to change the shape of women’s lives forever?
SETTING: Various locations in NYC circa 1967 with flashbacks to the 1950's, shifting from realism to theatrical surrealism and back
DURATION: Approximately 135 minutes, with one intermission
CHARACTERS:
MEG CRANE, white female, 26 - graphic designer at Organon Pharmaceuticals;
CHORUS #1 - female, 20's-30's, plays JODY, LILLIAN, and others;
CHORUS #2 - female, 30's-40's, plays MARY, MEG'S MOTHER, and others;
CHORUS #3 - female, 40's or above, plays MEG'S GRANDMOTHER, SISTER BERNADETTE and others;
CHORUS #4 - male, 40's or above, plays MARTIN, MEG'S FATHER, and others;

CHORUS #6 - male, 30's-50's, plays IRA, BERTIE, and others.

If possible, bring a picture and resume to the audition.
The Station Theatre is casting 7 roles ages 20s and above.
No roles are precast, all roles are open.
All backgrounds and ethnicities are welcome and encouraged to audition.
All roles demand strong comedic chops and the ability to balance the ridiculous with the dramatic.
NOTE: Predictor contains some strong language and adult themes, including antiquated sexist dialogue and detailed discussion of pregnancy and female anatomy.
To Audition: You do not need to prepare a monologue. Instead, you will be asked to perform readings from the script at the audition. Sides will be made available soon. We will have actors up and down to read multiple times in multiple combinations and scenes. As space allows, you will be able to watch the auditions. Actors may be asked to “work” on a scene with a scene partner during the audition. Actors may be asked to read for multiple roles. If an actor is only interested in one specific role, the director should be reminded during auditions. The Station Theatre strives to make our productions open to all levels of actors regardless of experience. The Station Theatre works hard to make the audition experience a fun and relaxed experience.
3-4 understudies - These roles are critical in the case that we have actors unexpectedly unableto perform a show due to illness or another cause. These will be script-in-hand understudy roleswhich means you do not need to fully memorize the show. You will be required to attend 4rehearsals, including two tech/dress rehearsals in September, to make sure you understand the staging for thecharacter(s) you are understudying. Understudies also need to be in town during the scheduled performances. Understudies are always welcome to attend any/all rehearsals and activities for the show.
Notes on Rehearsals: First read-thru will be July 19 or 20th. Rehearsals will tentatively run Monday-Thursday, 6pm - 9pm (subject to change pending casting.) This is truly an ensemble play with almost 40 french scenes; no actor is offstage for more than a couple of minutes. The production will be fast-paced with frequent costume and location (set) changes that will be performed by the actors, themselves. It will be physically and mentally demanding for all 7 actors. Therefore, rehearsal attendance and off-book deadlines will be crucial/mandatory.
Conflicts: Please list all conflicts between July 19 and September 21st (only need after 5pm Monday - Friday, all day Saturday & Sunday) on your audition form. Conflicts not disclosed on this form will not be excused unless they are true emergencies/illnesses. Once the show is cast and the rehearsal schedule is made, non-emergency/illness conflicts may result in recasting.
