About the Play: FADE is a witty, behind-the-scenes look into Hollywood’s writers’ room. When Lucia, a Mexican-born novelist, gets hired on a new detective show for her first writing job, she immediately feels out of place in the heavily white male-dominated industry. She quickly becomes friends with the only other Latino person in the office, the janitor, Abel. As the two become closer, Abel’s stories begin to seep into the scripts that Lucia writes, leading to harsh consequences. FADE, at its core, is a play about class, race, and gender within the Latino community. It is a play about survival while trying to stay true to who you are.
Setting: An office in a film studio, after work hours, taking place in the present day.
Duration: Approx. 90 minutes, no intermission
Performances Oct 23-Nov 2nd
Characters:
Lucia: Latina, Late 20’s – author/writer, acculturated. A bit “fresa” but she’s just a very Americanized Mexican.
Abel: Latino, Early 30’s – janitor, born in the U.S. and raised in LA. Mexican-American but very much Mexicanized. Definitely has some issues to work through.
To Audition: No monologue preparation needed. Instead, be prepared to share a short 30 second story about yourself that involves either your upbringing, family, or just something that makes you very passionate. Sides will also be provided to read from. Callbacks will include doing scenes with another actor. We will also be looking for understudies for the two roles. Understudies will be guaranteed a performance during the run of the show. Callbacks will be Saturday morning.
