About this Event

THE RIDE

Our bicycle rides are a great way to explore Western Pennsylvania and beyond. The rides are hosted by Leo McCarthy, Army veteran and retired Moon Township police chief. Leo works hard to plan our rides, peppering them with an ounce of fun and a dash of history.

The rides are social in nature and limited to a small group of 15 riders. We take our time and enjoy the camaraderie. Most rides are between 15 and 20 miles. If you don't have a bike, we may be able to help you. Email Y2hyaXN0aW5lICEgcmVlIHwgcmVzdG9yZTIyICEgb3Jn for information.

The Stavich trail is a reclaimed streetcar line from Poland, OH to New Castle, PA. Lowellville, OH is the perfect staging area and is about 51 miles from Pittsburgh. New construction has closed the west end of the trail so we will begin our 16.5 mile round trip at the new Riverfront Park along the Mahoning River. We will tour some of Lowellville and then hit the trail towards PA. Corn fields, cows and lots of wildlife will be observed including beavers in a massive pond. In 2021 we saw a bald eagle. An active railroad parallels the trail. Expect some short moderate hills with more down hills on the return.

Interested riders are welcome to join us for lunch afterward, at their own expense.

Meet up details will be provided the day prior to the ride.
