Blossom Moon Night Paddle on the Cache River
The Blossom Moon marks the height of spring, when forests and wetlands are alive with new growth and the sounds of wildlife returning to the swamp. Join river guide Max Hooten for a peaceful evening paddle through the beautiful Cache River Wetlands canoe trail, one of the most unique natural areas in southern Illinois.
As daylight fades and the moon begins to rise, we will quietly paddle through towering bald cypress and tupelo trees while the swamp comes alive around us. Listen for the chorus of spring frogs echoing across the water, the calls of barred owls in the distance, and the rustling of night creatures beginning their nightly routines. With the water reflecting the rising moon and the silhouettes of ancient trees around us, this is a special time to experience the wetlands in a way few people ever do.
This relaxed paddle is designed to give participants a chance to slow down, enjoy the evening, and experience the sights and sounds of the Cache River at night. Along the way, your guide will share a few stories and natural history notes about the wetlands, its wildlife, and the seasonal changes that make spring such a magical time in the swamp.
