MOONBEAN is a Toronto-based electronic duo who lace their live, synth hardware set with lush vocals. Their experimental electronica weaves in psychedelia, acid-house, techno, and disco, while their performance style harkens to a punk aesthetic.
Speaking to self-expression and community their lyrics weave mantras to empower their audience. Although their music is electronic, MOONBEAN plays an all-live hardware set which leaves room for improvisation and audience engagement.
Their musical inspirations align with Nine Inch Nails, Peaches, Ladytron, and Eurythmics. MOONBEAN's music is innovative in the way that it tricks you into feeling something nostalgic but by the end of the show, you realize it is unlike anything you’ve heard before. Highlights from 2024 include headlining Hillside Festival, Rainbow Trout Music Festival and playing Pride festivals and events in Toronto, Vancouver, Squamish, Kelowna and Owen Sound.
Rare Earth Magnet
Originally from Greater Sudbury, Zacharie Pelland left the city of nickel in 2016 on a whim to settle in Whitehorse as a touring and session musician. It was there that he met Amber, a multi-instrumentalist and radio producer from Edmonton who became his wife and the co-creator of Rare-Earth Magnet. Confined to their home just outside Whitehorse in late winter 2020 due to the pandemic, Amber and Zacharie recorded Rare-Earth Magnet's self-titled debut album. Together, they play all the instruments: keyboards, electric guitar, bass, drums and several synthesizers. According to Zach, the aesthetic of the project proudly ranks with the codes of science fiction: spaceships, astronauts and expansive horizons.
