Virginia 52 Hike Challenge National Trails Day - Crabtree Falls

Join 52 Hike Challenge Virginia on a 3 mile out and back hike to Crabtree Falls in the George Washington National Forest. Crabtree Falls, the highest vertical-drop cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River, is a popular attraction located in Nelson County. Crabtree Falls features a series of five major cascades and a number of smaller ones that fall a total distance of 1,200 feet. This hike offers several views of the waterfall as it wanders up the mountainside. The overlook at the top also offers incredible views of the Tye River Valley.

When: Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 9:30 am. We will meet at the trailhead kiosk for introductions and giveaways.

Skill Level: Intermediate. 3 miles with 1076 feet of elevation gain. The trail has several switchbacks and some stairs.

Be sure to wear adequate clothing and sunscreen. The trail can get muddy and slippery near the falls or after heavy rain, so please wear adequate footwear. Bring at least 2L of water, along with snacks and electrolytes. We will enjoy a long break at the top of the falls. As always, please pack your 10 essentials for safety reasons!
