Breckenridge Village, a residential community for adults with intellectual disabilities, has a mission to “turn dreamers into doers,” by helping residents achieve personal goals and explore their talents. For Bubba, a resident at Breckenridge, that dream has always been to have his very own art gallery. Bubba creates his drawings entirely from memory, capturing places he’s visited, vacations, buildings, and items that hold meaning for his family (such as tulips for his mother).
Southside’s upcoming Gallery 113 art showcase will shine a spotlight on Bubba as the featured artist and include artwork from other residents of Breckenridge Village. Bubba’s artwork will also be in the form of cards that visitors can take home with them after visiting the gallery.
The artwork will be displayed from August 18 to September 5. An official showcase event will be held on Thursday, August 21 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Gallery 113 where community members are invited to view the artwork and support Bubba and his fellow artists from Breckenridge Village of Tyler.
