Homeschool Quilting Club - Fridays starting in September 2025 at 1:30pm
A Creative Haven for Young Minds. Next Generation Quilters
Welcome to the Homeschool Quilting Club, where creativity, community, and craftsmanship blend seamlessly! Our club offers a unique opportunity for homeschooled students to dive into the rich tradition of quilting, learn valuable skills, and form lasting friendships.
About Us
The Homeschool Quilting Club is a vibrant community dedicated to nurturing the artistic talents of young quilters. We meet once a week to explore the fascinating world of fabrics, patterns, and stitching. Open to students ages 7 and up and all skill levels, our club aims to inspire creativity and foster a deep appreciation for the art of quilting.
Activities
· Quilting Workshops: Hands-on sessions where students learn various skills and techniques for creating quilts.
· Tips and Tricks; This semester Melissa is going to start every session with a quilt demo of a fun tip and trick to add to your toolbox of knowledge for all things quilting.
· Focal Project: We will be learning how to read a quilt pattern and how to create a 1-2-3 Quilt top, encouraging students to apply what they've learned and showcase their creativity as they choose their fabrics for the top, back, and binding of their quilt. Choosing their own quilting design. We will also be making a matching pillowcase to go with their quilts. They will leave this semester with a completed quilt and matching pillowcase.
· Show and Tell: We will have a Christmas Party the last week of class, Friday December 19th, where the kiddos will get the grand reveal of their finished quilted quilts and we will celebrate their achievements.
· Community Quilts: We will collectively work on one donation quilt together for 20 minutes of every class session. I believe this is a great character-building opportunity to work collaboratively on projects that promote teamwork, and this will be donated to the local Christian Quilt Guild as a donation quilt for foster children.
· Sew Much Fun with Melissa holds an annual Kids Quilt Show in June and we encourage each of our students to showcase their quilts at this show as well as have an opportunity to be a vendor for their homemade goods. Details will be available early spring 2026
Benefits
· Skill Development: Students gain practical skills such as sewing, measuring, and following patterns, which enhance their fine motor abilities and attention to detail.
· Creative Expression: Quilting allows students to express themselves artistically, experimenting with color, texture, and design.
· Social Interaction: The club provides a social outlet for homeschooled students, helping them build friendships and improve their communication skills.
· Historical Appreciation: By exploring the history of quilting, students develop an appreciation for cultural heritage and traditional crafts.
