Hosting Butterflies® is teaming up with Cedar Creek Township and Felt Mansion to launch a unique multi-community-wide Backyard Conservation initiative with a series of annual events to be accessible to the community in hands-on nature experiences, conservation, and education.
Kicking it off by introducing you to some of Nature’s Nighttime flyers.
🎬 Moth & Movie Night – an evening under the stars where nature, wonder, and family fun come together.
📍 Cedar Creek Township Park, 6556 Sweet RD, Twin Lake MI, 49457
🗓️ Saturday, August 23rd
🕕 Starts at 5 PM (Arts and Craft show starts at 9am and is a separate event)
🌿 Hands-on nature activities + conservation booths + double feature movie screening and a walk through the “Enchanted Forest” to see the forest floor sparkle. (Bring your headlamp)
🎥 Double Feature Films:
A Bug’s Life - A real live Heimlich was sighted on the property, maybe Heimli will pay another visit!.
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids - An excellent reminder of just how big we are in nature (also we added this movie to give the moth enthusiasts a little more time for moth sightings)
🚗 Make it a drive-in style movie night! Families are encouraged to bring and decorate their own cardboard box “cars” for extra fun or camp chairs or blankets.
🌙 What’s Moth Night?
Throughout the evening, we’ll use special lighting and sheets to attract moths, our nighttime pollinators. It’s a magical, educational experience that helps people appreciate the quiet creatures of the night who play a vital role in our ecosystems. While we’re waiting for the moths to come to the sheets we’ll be watching the movies, but people are free to check the moth sights at will. Because moths emerge at different times throughout the season you never know what we might see. We will have a few different light stations throughout the property.
Whether you’re new to plants, butterflies, and nature or an enthusiast, this event is catered to all ages, levels of interest and experience.
We’re inviting local food vendors and conservation organizations to join us. Share your offerings, knowledge, or mission with families who care about sustainability, nature, and community.
Volunteer opportunities are available with different levels of involvement.
If you’re interested or would like more details, we’d love to hear from you. Space is limited.
Thanks for all the ways you support conservation and connection.
Your registration is your ticket. We'll have you name.
