The Choctaw people have gathered on the grounds of the Choctaw Capitol for many years during the Labor Day weekend to celebrate family, fellowship together and to honor Choctaw traditions. As in Labor Days past, the weekend schedule is packed full of events to accommodate those who enjoy sporting events, traditional events like gourd dancing, princess pageants, or just family time on the grounds.
Enjoy cultural events like stickball games and the princess contest, concerts, arts and crafts, a free 5k run and much more! Join us Sunday for Church services and stay for the all-day Chahta gospel singing. Our Labor Day weekend will be a great experience for everyone as we fellowship together and honor our Choctaw traditions.
The Close has been selected to open up the Choctaw Nation Labor Day Festival!
Lori J Walker is a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahomaand a successful touring artist, instrumentalist and songwriter, and a founding member of her vocal band, The Close.
"We are so very honored to be have the opportunity to play for my tribe at the Labor Day Festival again this year! The Choctaw Nation Labor Day Festival is a time for our community to come together at the Choctaw Capitol and celebrate our culture, our traditions and our future. It is a great honor to be a Choctaw Artist and celebrate music, bead working, art, the Choctaw Village, the stick ball tournament, the Princess Pageant and so much more. If you have never been, you should go. It's unlike anything you have experienced before!"
The Close goes on at 6 pm, followed by Stoney LaRue at 7:30 pm and the Josh Abbott Band at 9 pm.
