The Reading and Northern Railroad is returning in Tunkhannock to provide Santa Train Rides on Saturday and Sunday, November 29th and 30th, departing from Tunkhannock’s Riverside Park. There are two ways to purchase tickets: at Greenwood’s Furniture, Tioga St and on-line ordering, through the railroad.
Train rides are at 10:30am, 1pm and 3:30 pm each day and Santa will be on board each train ride to visit with riders. Train tickets are $22 for individuals 13 and older; $9 for children ages 3 to 12 and children age 2 and under are free but need a ticket.
For those interested in purchasing the tickets on-line, go to www.RBMNRR-Passenger.com or by calling 610-562-2102.
For Saturday train riders, there is a special activity being coordinated in conjunction with the Santa train rides. Connie Kintner is organizing “Jingle Bell Rock” as an event to benefit Riverside Park and also encourage train riders to visit area businesses. Activities include an Ugly Sweater Contest, Gingerbread House Contest, a decorated tree contest along with a photo booth, ornaments, bird seed crafts and more. Event signs will be posted on Bridge Street near CVS and Ebb’s to direct people to the activities, in the rear of the Dietrich Theater and The Little Book place, near Ebb’s. The Event runs 10am to 4pm.
Advance train ticket sales are strongly encouraged and are also available at Greenwood’s Furniture, 61 E. Tioga Street, Tunkhannock. Tickets are being sold on a first come, first serve basis; there will be no holds, mail orders, or refunds. Tickets can be purchased with cash or checks payable to TBPA. Trips will run rain or shine. Everyone, regardless of age, must have a ticket.
Train riders are encouraged to arrive in town 45 minutes early and to not plan on parking at Riverside Park; parking there will be limited to Handicapped parking and patients for the chiropractor’s office. When riders purchase their tickets, they will receive a map of available parking areas throughout town.
These train rides have become a great tradition in Tunkhannock and TBPA suggests that those interested get their tickets early to available missing the opportunity.
