Positive Space Opens "Meat Engine" by New Mexico Artist Beedallo on September 6
MEAT ENGINE, an exhibition of paintings and drawings by Beedallo (Albuquerque, NM), is an attempt to document abstract patterns in the emotional, philosophical, and aesthetic cycles in their own life and the life of the constantly cycling culture around us.
Artist Statement: “I have never felt comfortable in my own skin. As I get older, the depersonalization stemming from this discomfort has been easier to achieve. I have begun viewing my being as a machine made of meat. This has been both a freeing and apathetic shift in mindset. I realize that like any other medium, meat can be sculpted and maintained. The distance I feel when I look at myself in the mirror can be mitigated. I may never have a body I feel comfortable in, but with diligence and patience I can tend to a machine.”
About the Artist: Beedallo grew up in Los Chavez, a small strip of farmland in Valencia County, New Mexico, and is currently based out of Albuquerque. Their work regularly shows in several galleries in the southwestern region and has been featured both nationally and internationally — as album art for the American synth-pop band Future Islands, the Australian experimental noise band Pleasure, and the Italian punk band The Whistling Heads. Beedallo’s work is also part of several prominent private collections including that of actor Billy Zane (Titanic, Back to the Future); appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert; and promotional material for Apple.
