Geneva Escobedo, a Chicana/Mexican American bilingual poet and storyteller, is a native of Arizona. Her stories and poems focus on her rich Mexican culture, family, friendships, spirituality, and social and political experiences.
Her recent book, Reflections of the Heart. Stories and Poems from Life, published in 2024, contains eight chapters of sixty poems and stories about her mother, self-reflection and stories about friends, family and spiritual places. It received Honorable Mention for Most Inspirational Book by the International Latino Book Awards Program in 2024.
She retired after a 30-year career in higher education. She is a graduate of Arizona State University, W. P. Carey School of Business and the University of Phoenix. She is a proud stepmother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Geneva is an avid reader, believes that learning is a lifetime experience and has been a member of Tucson Rincon Writers for over ten years.
The open mic is for spoken word only, but is open to all forms of spoken word (fiction, essays, poetry, articles, polemics, etc.). So bring something to read.
The event will be held at the UFCW Union Hall at 2955 E. Broadway. This is on the north side of Broadway, immediately west of the large and fancy Chase Bank, which is on the northwest corner of Broadway and Country Club Road. Parking and entry are from the rear.
