Ballet Rincon presents Paquita and The Spring Showcase - May 30-31st at Vail Theatre of the Arts
About Paquita - Friday 5/30 and Saturday 5/31 at 7pm
Set in Spain during the Napoleonic Wars, Paquita is the story of a young girl who is found as a baby and raised by gypsies, unaware that she is actually of noble birth. She is in love with a young French nobleman, named Lucien, but their social ranks prevent them from being together. Paquita eventually discovers her true identity and marries Lucien in a grand wedding celebration.
The ballet was originally choreographed by Joseph Mazilier for the Paris Opéra Ballet in 1846. Marius Petipa, the legendary French dancer and ballet master, later restaged the ballet.
It is rarely staged in full, but rather just the second act, featuring the Grand Pas Classique, which is a modern performance right of passage for dancers around the world. Our full production proves to be a delightful retelling of the story, filled with bold colors, tambourines, and of course… little sheep and geese!
