More about the Monsoon Melon
The Tohono O’odham variety of yellow watermelon is typically planted with the midsummer monsoon rains and is well adapted to Arizona’s searing summer heat. Once known as the Hopi Yellow Watermelon, this melon has been given many names, including Tiger Melon, Sikyatko, Gepi, and, of course, Tohono O’odham Yellow Watermelon.
Santa Cruz River Farmers’ Market Is Open Every Thursday
The market features fresh fruits and vegetables grown locally in Southern Arizona without chemical pesticides. SNAP recipients can get double the fresh produce when paying with SNAP benefits! The market offers culturally relevant foods not available in grocery stores and community spaces to engage with growers and neighbors.
