Beginning Pastel with Debra Chase

This comprehensive four-week class is designed specifically for beginning pastelists who are eager to develop their skills and explore the vibrant world of pastel art. Throughout the course, participants will learn about various types of paper suitable for pastels, understanding how different textures and weights can affect their work. Students will practice different strokes and techniques to create texture, depth, and movement in their artwork. Underpainting methods will be explored to establish tonal values and serve as a foundation for more complex layers. The class will also touch on mixed media approaches. Overall, this course aims to provide beginners with a solid foundation in pastel art, fostering confidence and encouraging personal expression.

Students are asked to bring any pastels and paper they already own and to refrain from purchasing any supplies until after the first class. Additionally, please bring reference materials for the paintings you wish to work on.

Students can enter the gallery through the front door and go down the stairs. If stairs are a concern, you may enter from the lower back level and park behind Throwbax Bar and Grill. If the lower-level door is locked, please knock loudly so that someone can come and open it for you.
