Teej (Teeyan in Punjabi) Festival Celebration
Teej (Teeyan in Punjabi) is a vibrant festival celebrated by women in Northern India, marking the onset of the monsoon season (July-August). This festival is dedicated to daughters, sisters, and mothers, symbolizing the joy and beauty of the rainy season.
Traditionally, married women would spend the month of Saawan (Monsoon) with their parents, reuniting with family and friends. Women and girls dress up in traditional attire, gather to tie swings to trees, and perform Gidha, a traditional dance accompanied by folk songs and crafts like embroidery and henna.
