Field Trip: A 2 Part Wood Fired Ceramics Workshop

Ever wanted to play with mud and then literally set it on fire in a 2,300°F inferno?  Welcome to the ceramic workshop + wood firing experience you didn’t know you were craving but now can’t stop thinking about.

This isn't some dainty pottery class. This is earth, sweat, smoke, and transformation. You’ll get your hands dirty shaping clay, then watch it face the flames in a roaring wood fired kiln where no two pieces survive the same.

Please be informed this is a 2 part workshop!

PART 1: Tuesday, July 1 Doors at 5:30 goes until 9:00pm@Context Collective(TROY) - Participants will be given a short lesson about woodfired pottery and guided through the basic techniques of handbuilding. Each participant will then be given approximately 3 pounds of clay to create 1-2 pieces of work to be loaded in the wood fire kiln. Participants will also sign up for their Part 2 session during Part 1 of this workshop series.

PART 2: July 10, 11, or 12 - times vary - Located @ Pat and Marica’s(DELMAR) - Participants will sign up for a 2 hour(minimum) to 6 hour session AT the wood kiln with Pat and Marica(address to be shared on July 1)! This shift is not mandatory but highly encouraged to be able to get the full wood firing experience. That’s when the magic happens! Participants can choose which day/time (10th, 11th, or 12th) they would like to venture to Delmar for the firing. During this time participants will learn about the kiln, and assist in the firing by stoking the kiln with wood, checking temperatures, and more! Participants can sign up for Part 2 as a single or with a friend.
