Directed by John Madden.​A special screening for Twelfth Night: the enchanting Shakespeare in Love, deserving winner of seven Oscars in 1999 including Best Picture. This is one of those occasions in which all the stars align in perfect harmony to create a modern cinematic masterpiece. It's an exuberant and uplifting romantic comedy that combines a spectacular recreation of Elizabethan London, with a brilliantly playful and witty script (by Tom Stoppard and Marc Norman), and superb performances from its entire cast, not least Gwyneth Paltrow and Joseph Fiennes. They play the two star-crossed lovers at the centre of the piece: the budding 16th century dramatist Will Shakespeare, struggling to write a hit show, and Viola de Lesseps, theatre-obsessed daughter of a noble household whose only opportunity to become an actor is to pretend to be a man, and who in the process inspires several of the greatest plays ever written. It's a wonderfully funny riff on everything we do and don't know about the world's greatest playwright but also Stoppard's brilliant meditation on the nature of creative writing and what inspires it.
