The exhibition presents the artistic projects of Marc Traian Pricop, Alexander Crilles Tønnesen, and Ingunn Schumann Mosand.
How can art create space for community, reflection, and new ecological awareness in a time marked by crisis and acceleration?
This year’s MFA graduation exhibition from the Trondheim Academy of Fine Art (NTNU) explores precisely this question. Under the title New Nature Poetics, three newly graduated artists present works that investigate the relationship between humans and nature, technology, urban development, and collective memory.
The exhibition title «New Nature Poetics» is borrowed from the American poet Gary Snyder, who in the 1990s introduced the term to describe a new way of writing with nature’s processes – not merely about them. Where listening, sensing, and responding becomes an ethical and aesthetic act. This idea forms a poetic and political backdrop for the three projects, each pointing to the need for alternative ways of sensing, understanding, and being in the world.
Although diverse in their methodologies and materials, these three artists are connected in their approach to looking closely to the environments around them. For Ingunn this is how we empathise with that outside of ourselves, for Marc it is our relationship with a new plastic-polluted environment, and for Alexander it is about placemaking within the shared city-identity.
The exhibition also highlights the role of art education in an era where higher education is increasingly expected to justify itself through quantifiable results and economic utility. New Nature Poetics reminds us of art’s unique ability to open space for critical thinking, sensory experience, and resonance – and to question what is otherwise taken for granted.
Ingunn Schumann Mosand (b. 1990, Toten) presents the installation Conglomeratus, in which a fragile hybrid being – half nature, half human – is dissected in a posthumanist laboratory evoking both unease and care.
Marc Traian Pricop (b. 1993, Tasmania) documents plastic cleanup along the Norwegian coast in Sea, Sand & Plastic, based on his experiences as a coastal renovator. His photographs depict landscapes and plastic pollution in Northern Norway and Svalbard, juxtaposing human impact with deep geological time.
Alexander Crilles Tønnesen (b. 1997, Denmark) explores Trondheim’s 18th- and 19th-century social culture in the project Paa Trondhjemsk vis, investigating how infrastructure, belonging, and public life are shaped and negotiated in today’s urban development.
As part of his project, Tønnesen will host two events:

An artist talk with the three artists will take place on May 28 from 13:00 to 18:30, moderated by art historian Gustav Svihus Borgersen and exhibition producer Margrete Abelsen.

Utstillingen presenterer kunstprosjektene til de tre nyutdannede kunstnerne; Marc Pricop, Alexander Crilles Tønnesen og Ingunn Schumann Mosand.
Hvordan kan kunst skape rom for fellesskap, ettertanke og ny økologisk bevissthet i en tid preget av krise og akselerasjon?
Årets masteravgangsutstilling ved Kunstakademiet i Trondheim (NTNU) er opptatt av dette spørsmålet. Under tittelen «New Nature Poetics» presenterer tre nyutdannede kunstnere kunstverk som på ulike måter undersøker menneskets forhold til natur, teknologi, byutvikling og kollektivt minne.
Utstillingstittelen «New Nature Poetics» er lånt fra den amerikanske poeten Gary Snyder, som på 1990-tallet introduserte begrepet ‘New Nature Poetics’ for å beskrive en ny måte å skrive med naturens prosesser – ikke om dem. Hvor det å lytte, sanse og respondere blir en etisk og estetisk handling. Denne tankegangen danner et poetisk og politisk bakteppe for de tre prosjektene, som alle peker på behovet for alternative måter å sanse, forstå og være i verden på.
Selv om de tre kunstnerne arbeider med ulike metoder og materialer, har de til felles et nært blikk på omgivelsene rundt seg. For Ingunn Schumann Mosand handler det om hvordan vi kan føle empati med det som er utenfor oss selv, for Marc Traian Pricop dreier det seg om vårt forhold til et plastforurenset miljø, og for Alexander Crilles Tønnesen handler det om stedsdannelse innenfor byens felles identitet.
Utstillingen løfter samtidig frem kunstutdanningens rolle i en tid hvor høyere utdanning stadig oftere må rettferdiggjøres gjennom målbarhet og økonomisk nytte. "New Nature Poetics" minner oss om kunstens unike evne til å åpne rom for kritisk tenkning, sanselighet og resonans – og til å stille spørsmål ved det som ellers tas for gitt.
Ingunn Schuhmann Mosand (f. 1990, Toten) viser installasjonen Conglomeratus, hvor et sårbart hybridvesen – halvt natur, halvt menneske – dissekeres i et posthumanistisk laboratorium som vekker både uro og omsorg.
Marc Traian Pricop (f. 1993, Tasmania) dokumenterer plastopprydning langs norskekysten i Sea, Sand & Plastic, med utgangspunkt i egne erfaringer som kystrenovatør. Hans fotografier skildrer landskap og plastforurensning i Nord-Norge og på Svalbard, og setter menneskets avtrykk i naturen opp mot dyp geologisk tid.
Alexander Crilles Tønnesen (f. 1997, Danmark) tar utgangspunkt i Trondheims selskapskultur på 1700- og 1800-tallet i prosjektet Paa Trondhjemsk vis, og undersøker hvordan infrastruktur, tilhørighet og offentlighet formes og forhandles i dagens byutvikling.
Som en del av sitt prosjekt arrangerer Tønnesen to eventer:
