Songs of Stephen Foster and Other Folk Songs

The spring concert of the Trinidad Community Chorale and our newly formed Children's Choir will feature the songs of Stephen Foster. His music was composed between 1844 and 1864.

Foster served as a powerful role model for other American composers of “the people’s music. He came to be the standard bearer of what poet Walt Whitman called heart singing: the kind of music-making in which word elevates music and music buoys up the spirit. His poems are the narrations of an American dreamer, his melodies the voices of the heart.

His last piece. "Beautiful Dreamer" was published posthumously and is included in the concert.

The Children's Choir will enhance the performance with some other fun folk songs.

We are excited to have accompanists on piano, violin, upright bass, banjo, and guitar. Come join us for a fun-filled, toe-tapping musical experience.

Please note we are returning to the Massari Theatre on the TSC campus this season and is free to the public with donations appreciated.
