PETROV DAY FOR PALESTINE
MUSIC AND ANTINUCLEAR ACTIVISM IN SUPPORT OF THE SUMUD FLOTILLA
On Friday, September 26th, at 6:00 p.m., "Petrov Day for Palestine" will take place at the "Kako di Nagasaki" in San Giovanni Park, near Franco Basaglia's former studio on Via Costantinides in Trieste. This event marks the UN Day of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, and supports the Nuclear Free Zone in the Mediterranean and the Middle East. In case of inclement weather, the event will take place under the porticoes in the upper part of the park near the church.
Participating artists include Alejandro Fernandez, who has composed songs against the Leonardo di Ronchi drone factory and for Palestine; Nicola Spanghero, who will narrate his thesis on the explosion of a nuclear bomb at the Aviano base; and Silvia Marinković, who will perform Jacob van Eyck's Pavane "Lacrymae" for baroque flute.
Tavola Pace FVG therefore presents the proposal to denuclearize the Gulf, which hosts the military ports of Trieste and Koper, in accordance with the Peace Treaty that established the demilitarization and neutrality of our territory and the new UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
The Day is promoted in support of the Global Sumud Flotilla for Gaza—which has recently come under heavy attack—and is dedicated to Soviet Colonel Stanislav Petrov, who in
1983 saved the world from nuclear holocaust by failing to react to erroneous radar signals of incoming American nuclear missiles.
The Nagasaki Persimmon tree descends from a tree that survived the Holocaust caused by the American atomic bombing of Japan in 1945.
