Yin Yoga is a slow-paced, meditative style of yoga that targets the deeper connective tissues of the body—such as ligaments, joints, fascia, and bones—rather than just the muscles. Unlike more active (yang) styles of yoga, Yin involves holding passive postures for longer periods of time, typically 3 to 5 minutes or more.
In Yin Yoga, breath, gravity, and stillness become your primary tools. By consciously softening the muscles and breathing deeply, you invite the body to release tension and surrender into each posture. Gravity gently draws the body downward, encouraging a natural opening without force. Over time, the stillness of the pose allows stress and holding patterns within the fascia and connective tissue to unwind, increasing flexibility and mobility in areas that are often dense or restricted.
This subtle, yet profound work doesn't rely on effort or muscular engagement. Instead, it cultivates patience, presence, and awareness — helping you to explore the edge of sensation while staying relaxed and receptive. The longer holds provide time for introspection and an opportunity to observe the body's deeper responses, both physical and emotional.
