Yvo Cho - The brain is not a ready-made machine

On 12 September 2025, INCURVA will open its new space in Largo San Francesco di Paola, the heart of Trapani’s historic center. The inaugural exhibition will be a solo show by Yvo Cho, curated by Saim Demircan, Artistic Director of INCURVA.

The brain is not a ready-made machine will be Cho’s first solo show outside of Germany, following his studies at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and the Städelschule in Frankfurt. The exhibition will focus on a selection of the artist’s recent work in photography and include a newly-commissioned moving image piece that continues Cho’s experimental use of camera technologies to document a specific location or architecture; in this case, La Borde in Cour-Cheverny – the experimental psychiatric clinic where Felix Guattari worked since the early 1950s.

In his practice to date, Cho has deployed various photographic tropes to reconsider the reliability of images today and how their status changes as they circulate publicly across various platforms. Whether reprinting images from a design magazine or using commercially available artificial intelligence software to expand the frame of a photograph, the artist pays particular attention not only to what is seen, but to who decides what is shown.
