As part of this year’s Anam Festival, celebrated author Patrick will appear at NO.14 Tralee on Saturday, July 13th at 2PM to discuss his latest book, Gatsby: Death of an Irishman.
Patrick is the acclaimed author of Crowdfunding the Revolution: The First Dáil Loan and the Battle for Irish Independence (2020), which led to a courtesy visit with President Michael D. Higgins, and Revolution at the Waldorf: America and the Irish War of Independence (2022). His writing and commentary have been featured in the Irish Times and across national media, as well as on leading history and economics podcasts. He has presented at major events from the Dublin Book Festival to international venues in New York and Monaco.
In Gatsby: Death of an Irishman, Patrick offers a groundbreaking exploration of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s iconic novel The Great Gatsby, revealing the deep emotional and cultural undercurrents tied to Fitzgerald’s Irish heritage. The book uncovers how Fitzgerald’s identity, literary brilliance, and personal demons were all shaped by a complex and often painful relationship with his Irish background.
Patrick’s talk promises to bring a fresh lens to one of the most studied novels of the 20th century, weaving together biography, history, and literary insight in a way that speaks to both scholars and general readers alike.
Don’t miss this unique literary event as part of the Anam Festival — a must for history lovers, literature fans, and anyone intrigued by the hidden influences behind great writing.
