Hi lovely humans :)
There are a lot of event details, please read on…
In the beginning, I thought I could simply share a perspective very uncommon to most of the greater public. However - that perspective, seems to be more common in people I talk to.
As organizers, for Wendy Marten and I, our involvement with this year’s West Kootenay-Boundary ALS BC Move to a Cure is to raise awareness about ALS as much as funds for the vital services and research that ALS BC supports.
One cannot imagine when their world changes.. when they hear words they may have only heard mentioned in passing elsewhere.
“You have ALS.”
Being on the fringes of the direct impact - feelings of helplessness, pain, sympathy and auto-pilot - have become the norm in the lives of a family we love. Even harder, this is something we cannot take away or carry for them ❤️
Maybe it has affected someone you know elsewhere.. maybe not at all?
I share this perspective because I feel like, when those words are shared… And this is hard for me to say, the people that are affected.. become timekeepers. Amongst everything else that they are then facing… The only focus should be on remaining well and connected with their loved ones.
And that is where the rest of us come in as the unaffected.
What can you and I do, so others who fight this disease can give energy to their body and their life?
We can surround those with the supportive efforts of:
- assisting in registering and fundraising as a team
- as a sole participant
- as a team to host the Event day BBQ
- as a volunteer
- as a much- appreciated business who may choose to sponsor
The Move to Cure ALS is the signature fundraising event for the ALS Society of British Columbia.
The intention is to unite people to share and connect. To honour those we have loved and lost, and support the people and their families living with the disease by "Moving" together towards a cure for ALS, whether walking, running, rolling, supporting or being present in person or virtually.
All funds raised will stay in BC and the Yukon to support people living with ALS, patient care, and ALS research.
We welcome all to join us as we walk Gyro and the walk route in Trail as we move to this year’s goal of $70,000!
We welcome all levels of sponsorship so we can dedicate as much as possible to ALS BC.
We have entertainment being planned and we have invited to a few groups.
We are seeking unique ways to capture the uplifting messages of those we might be “Moving” for.
We can’t do it without the beautiful people that will help us present to sea of those wearing and walking in purple at Gyro Park.
Thank you for helping in this Move-ment.
