Clay and Company: A hand building clay class
In this 6-week class, we will explore pinch, coil, and slab processes to make bowls and vases, and make sprig molds for surface decoration.

Clay and Company: Handbuilding Class

Tuesdays, Apr. 29 - May 27

Time: 6 - 8pm

Instructor: Jay Anderson, Ph.D.


In this 5-week class you will explore pinch, coil, and slab processes to make bowls and vases. You will also learn how to make and use sprig molds for surface decoration. We will talk about glaze processes and personal style.

$250 for non members

$210 for Arts Lab members

$30.00 materials fee brought to first session.

Minimum of 4 participants required to run the class, Ages 16+.

About the Instructor
James B. Anderson, Ph.D.

Jay grew up on the West Coast, moved to rural Colorado, traveled the world, and now lives in southern Maryland.


An artist, writer, photographer, and educator, his other abiding passion is exploring the relationship between Image-Based Learning, Semiotics, and Visual Arts Education.


For decades, Jay taught Studio Art and Ceramics in various K-12 and university settings both here and abroad. He still thoroughly enjoys working with students of all ages and levels of ability.


He is the author and illustrator of four books, ‘The Oath’, ‘Where Tour Buses Won’t Go’, ‘Threadbare Tales from Silk Road’ and “The Leavenworth Lifers Pr*son Baseball Organization".

Vision: To create a vibrant, nationally recognized arts destination in Southern Anne Arundel County, Maryland, where everyone can experience the life changing impact of creative expression.

Arts Lab of South County operates as a workspace where artists can create their own work and share the experience with others. Arts Lab provides dynamic interactions with the arts through our community of visual artists, open studio tours, and programs. Artists work in oil paint, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, pencils, glass, ceramic, metal/jewelry, fiber arts, stone, plastic and more.
