Sunrise Ride in Cades Cove!

We'd like to keep the group size manageable. Because of that, it is not an official "epic" ride (no guests, please), though it is totally epic!!

This is for gravel and mountain bikes only. No road bikes, unless your road bike is designed to accommodate wider tires for gravel.

Rain date: Friday, October 31, 2025

Rollout: 6 AM

There will be lots of leaves down on Rich Mtn Road. Please plan extra drive time and drive safe!

Parking is limited, so driving with a friend is preferred.

We will start in the pitch dark, and watch the sky lighten as we ride gravel to the top of Rich Mtn. As we descend, the skies will begin to turn colors as dawn takes hold. And if we're lucky, stars may still be visible when we reach the Cove. We'll stop for pictures along the way.

We will head over to Sparks Lane for the sunrise, and be in position about 7:30 AM-ish. Official sunrise is at 7:54 AM. The Cove will not be open to cars until 8 AM.

We will return via Rich Mtn road, going the same direction as traffic. We will encounter very few vehicles at that hour. Fall colors, though likely past peak, should still be spectacular.

Alternatively, you may decide to take the paved road back to Townsend.

• A headlight to see by
• A headlamp as a second light is prefered but not necessary
• Tail light, in case you return via the paved road
• Layered clothing
• Food / beverages (I plan to bring hot chocolate in a thermos, for example)
• Camera!

No pace groups -- this is strictly a casual ride with many photo opps.
