Join us for a rare opportunity to see cult animated classic Rock & Rule (1983) with a behind-the-scenes director's talk by Clive Smith. The talk will be followed by a Q&A and poster signing.
Rock & Rule (1983) is a groundbreaking Canadian animated sci-fi rock musical directed by Clive Smith and produced by Nelvana. Set in a post-apocalyptic future where mutated animals have inherited the Earth, the film follows Angel and her band as they clash with the sinister rock star Mok, who seeks to summon a demon through music. Blending hand-drawn animation with a killer soundtrack featuring artists like Debbie Harry, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, and Cheap Trick, Rock & Rule combines punk aesthetics, dark fantasy, and rock ‘n’ roll rebellion. Initially overlooked, it has since become a beloved cult classic for animation and music fans alike.
Co-presented by OCAD University, the Faculty of Art and Experimental Animation.
