Drawing through Dance

This art workshop explores line drawing and the memory of movement.

Videos of Castro Romero dancers will be projected and then participants will draw from their memory the dancers and movement. The body led by the hands of the participants will mimic the movement of the dancers so that it is possible to feel the movement translated into fluid black lines. Calligraphy style pens and brushes will be provided to translate the movement into continuous fluid lines. Like the exhibition Forbidden the lines will reveal the masculine / feminine nature of flamenco as a translation of dance language into lines like a physical written narrative.

Participants are encouraged to use their imagination to interpret dance through drawing or painting as the lines can be represented as abstract imagery or representational imagery of dancers.

Info: Closing party will have a special visit from Spain, Ricardo Castro the photographer of the Forbidden exhibition who will speak briefly about his artistic practice and flamenco and demonstrate some flamenco dancing for the participants to dive deeper into flamenco. The gallery will be open with the photo exhibition as well as videos projected on the storefront with Castro Romero's choreography and dancing.
