When Shaquille Morgan first set foot on the cobblestones of Lisbon, he wasn’t just exploring a new city—he was confronting an old belief. A World Away, an essay from his book, The Space Between, traces the tension between inherited wisdom and lived experience. What does it mean to delay joy, to wait until “the right time” to live? How do generational ideas about sacrifice, success, and security shape the way we see the world—and ourselves?
The discussion, moderated by Ph.D candidate Krystle Skeete looks at Morgan's reflecting on travel as both a physical and spiritual journey. His essay examines the freedom found in presence, the courage it takes to move beyond fear, and the beauty discovered in simplicity.
Following the reading, Shaquille will take part in a moderated conversation exploring the essay’s themes of generational transformation, scarcity, and self-liberation—inviting audiences to reflect on their own definitions of fulfillment and freedom.
