About the event

Ber bi Asoyê ve (Toward the Horizon)
The two Toronto-based Kurdish artist guests, Kazim Boran, Saz (Baglama) and Hezil, vocals, will join Dilan Ensemble, directed by the Kurdish kamānche player, composer and singer Shahriyar Jamshidi, to resonate songs from various parts of Kurdistan in their trio concert at Annette Studios. With the power of improvisation rooted in Kurdish traditions, they can cross the boundaries of musical genres and create a spontaneous musical momentum that penetrates from the soul of the musicians to the heart and soul of the listeners.

If you are enthusiastic about listening to the pure tastes of diverse musical ethnicities from West Asia, especially Greater Kurdistan, rather than the mainstream musical themes, melodies and languages of Persian and Turkish, this unique Kurdish Kamanche-Baglama and vocal trio is for you! You can immerse yourself in the beauty of Kurdish traditional music and leave the melodies and rhythms to transport you to the mesmerizing feeling of being in the mountains of Kurdistan, which are covered with Oaks and Wild Pistachio trees.

Kazim Boran is a Toronto-based Saz (Baglama) player born in Dersim, Turkey, rooted in Kurdish Alavi music and Turkish Maqam. Boran has contributed his musical talent as a soloist and in groups to the Kurdish diaspora community for many years.

Hezil is a Kurdish singer from Northern Kurdistan, “Bakŭr”, born in Turkey. “My journey has led me through cultural institutions and artistic collectives, where I’ve shared songs rooted in the ancient soil of Mesopotamia. While Kurdish is the core of my expression, I sing in many tongues—each one a thread in the rich tapestry of this timeless land.”

“Shahriyar Jamshidi is a Kurdish-Canadian Kamanche player, composer, singer and artistic director at Dilan Ensemble with a pronounced cultural background who has devoted his artistic profession to the preservation and transmission of the Kurdish musical heritage. Shahriyar is also well-known for his creative and masterful kamānche improvisations, both as a soloist and in ensembles.”

Door opens at 7:15 PM
Concert starts at 8:00 PM
Advance tickets: $25
Tickets at the door on the day of the concert: $30
