4-Week Raku Firing Workshop: Aug 7, 14, 21, and 28.
Raku firing is planned for Saturday Sept. 20, 1-8pm weather permitting.
Every Thursday in Aug. this 2-hour workshop will offer us 4 days to create your projects for the raku fire. Learn different clay handbuilding methods and make something ornamental or extravagant. Show your style with these decorative projects! Don't know what you want to make? We will offer suggestions and teach you different techniques. Plus, you have studio access to work outside of class and practice skills learned in class. This workshop is intended to learn clay handbuilding and raku firing skills. All instruction, tools, clay, glaze, and firing are included! Fire up to 6 of your favorite pieces in the raku. You can choose to attend the whole day of firing or just part of the day.
Items will be available for pickup after the raku firing. Space is limited.
Raku Firing Saturday on Sept. 20, 1-8pm. Raku firing is an ancient Japanese technique. Raku firing involves removing pottery from the kiln while they are still glowing red (Heat) and placing it into containers with combustible materials. Once the sawdust and newspaper ignite (Fire), the containers are closed (Smoke). Participate in this fun and exciting firing event or just watch the show it is amazing to see! In addition to the glaze method, we will do Naked Raku with sugar, honey, horse hair or feathers.
Optional Horsehair - We have access to some donated horsehair, you are always welcome to bring your own for naked Raku.
