TOLEDO—Our Helping Hands of St. Louis 12th Annual Shoe Fest is coming up Saturday, July 26 from 9 a.m. – Noon at 443 Sixth St., Toledo, OH, and we need your help! We need volunteers and your donations of new athletic shoes for kids sizes toddler 10 through adult 10. Socks to fit the same size shoes are also needed. This event helps each child start their school year off on the right foot!
“Last year we provided new shoes, socks and school supplies to more than 800 school-age children,” says Sue Shrewsbery, Director of Helping Hands of St. Louis. “We focus on East Toledo families, but no child will be turned away, if we have their size shoe. First come, first served."
Also needed- 400 school supply boxes, 400 drawstring style backpacks, school supplies to go in them, scissors, glue sticks, markers, colored pencils, pencils, pens, pencil sharpeners, erasers, spiral notebooks: wide ruled mostly, some college ruled.
Snack bags for the kids - breakfast bar/sweet snack and a salty snack in a Ziplock bag. Also needed - breakfast and/or energy bars for the adults.
Volunteers are needed at various times to sort shoes and set-up on Friday, July 25. Volunteers are also needed on Saturday, July 26, both adults and teens (who must be accompanied by an adult). Please call the Helping Hands of St. Louis office at 419.691.0613, ext. 101 or send a text to volunteer at 419-318-7086.
You can drop off your bagged new shoe donations, bagged and clearly marked Shoe Fest, to Helping Hands of St. Louis from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 443 Sixth Avenue, Toledo. We would like to have donations by the first weekend in July, if possible.
Also, if you see a great sale on athletic shoes, let us know so others can purchase their shoes on sale as well.
Donations of children’s backpacks and school supplies such as paper, crayons, dry-erase markers, hand sanitizer, tissues and Ziploc bags are welcomed.
Donations can be dropped off at Helping Hands 2nd floor Office, 443 Sixth St., Toledo, OH, preferably by Thurs., July 3 for sorting. Please clearly mark donations as “Shoe Fest.”
