Women and the Sea: True Tales of Whaling Wives

Over 400 women accompanied their husbands on whaling voyages! Join Nancy Gentile from the New Bedford Whaling Museum as she explains:

* Early to mid 19th-century whaling wives: why they went and what they did on board
* Contents of a medicine chest and medical practices of the day -- typical diseases and chronic issues
* Whaling history in general on New Bedford, Nantucket, and Martha’s Vineyard

Plus, you'll get the chance to see a harpoon, lance, baleen, oil lamps, and other whaling items!
